Maison Ozmen is pleased to continue its Taiwanese month with the new solo show of Taiwanese young talent Zhu Chen Wei. We are proudly presenting you 10 recent acrylic works by the artist in our Parisian space from 10th May to 20th May.
In this series of works, Zhu conveys us his understanding of “new mythology”: the work hides sharp doubts and unease under the colorful and joyful images; it attempts to reflect the absurdity under the impact of the new mythology, or the vanity of human desires. The saturated and frizzy beasts and the arrow-shaped desires confront each other on the screen, creating an intertextuality between the body and it.
Technique-wise, Zhu uses a large-area flat coating technique to preserve the texture of the oil canvas itself in a small number of layers; then adding dislocation lines that overflow the composition itself, in the previous creations, the lines were used as “destruction of the original picture”. In his recent creations, the lines are instead the “enjoyment of the colors”. Combining color blocks and strokes, line stacking, and paint debris, the visual effect simulates the atmosphere of pop art in the 1960s.
