Maison Ozmen is pleased to present you the duo show From Sand to Sea, featuring Kpe Innocent and Yokoteen. We think nothing is better than this show to put a perfect ending to the summer 2023, with the ocean spirit from Yokoteen, and the minimalist style from Kpe Innocent. 18 new works will be on show, which will bring a fantastic art journey from earth tone to ocean blue to our collectors.
Kpe Innocent transforms his faith into art – but without the usual symbolism of Western Christian art. His quirky acrylic on canvas paintings show bulbous humanoid figures. Their proportions are exaggerated and dominate their surroundings – large bodies with long limbs and tiny heads. Like the background, the figures are painted in blocks of colour in neutral earthy tones and clean minimalist lines. His work combines contemporary aesthetics like streetwear and modernist architecture, with Christian theology.
Yokoteen is best known for his ‘Friends in Paradise’ series. His signature paintings feature feline figures in peaceful, Hawaiian landscapes, often surfing or relating to the sea in some way - in his visual universe, Water is a symbolic element that unites all humankind in a spiritual manner.
Always on a positive note, Yokoteen uses non-human characters to make a connection between our personal selves and our identity in the human community, highlighting universally desired values such as development, diversity, and harmony. By not depicting particular races or genders, the artist tries to appeal to our relationship with the world as a whole.
